Katja Nyqvist

Finnish-born dance artist and educator based in Bergen, Norway.

Katja is passionate about creativity and learning. She has spent all her working life in and around theatres and education working as a performer, teacher, events producer, learning and participation coordinator, study consultant and in front of house.

Katja performs, collaborates and creates for stage, gallery and outdoor spaces, and has worked with choreographers including Gaby Agis, Rosemary Lee, J Neve Harrington, Joe Moran and Thomas Hauert as well as collaborated with improvisation groups Sheeps (UK), cross-disciplinary collective Free Range Orchestra (UK) and ImproLaBergen (NO), which she co-leads since 2023 .

Katja’s artistic interests include improvisation and score-making, dancing in public spaces, languages and choreographed text.

Katja also has over ten years of experience of teaching dance and movement in Higher Education as Senior Lecturer in Dance at University of Roehampton, Associate Lecturer at Birkbeck, UCL and sessional teacher at Trinity Laban as well as leading workshops in community settings. Katja holds a Specialist Post-graduate diploma in Choreological Studies (2012), MA in Dance Performance (2007), and BA (Hons) Dance Theatre (2005) from Trinity Laban, London.
