In Circles
‘In Circles’ is a new project exploring circulating words, concepts and images through choreography and text. Drawing on my experiences of moving between different languages, the project embarks on a roundabout journey of reading and dancing through a lexicon of circularity. How do words move us physically, emotionally and metaphorically? And how can words, in turn, be choreographed? The inspiration and creative focus of the project is on etymological dictionaries and choreographic reading of them. Together with a small team of collaborators, we will ‘go-in-circles’ (1) and ‘turn-about-with’ (2) and create improvisation scores and reading journeys around word-concepts such as sirkler, circa, circulation, vertebra, verse, versions, universe, vertigo, virvel, whirls, twirls, vri, vind, volume, evolution, ruller, rund, surround, turns, tropics, and trends.
1 research (v.) from Latin circare "go about, wander, traverse," in Late Latin "to wander hither and thither," from circus "circle".
2 conversation (n.) [from] conversare "to turn about, turn about with," from assimilated form of com "with, together" + versare, frequentative of vertere "to turn"

“A rollercoaster ride with your words, like I’ve been tumbling about down this well of words...To me this was dance, you really choreograph our thoughts.”
